Service Desk Analyst

The Division of Information Technology's (GBIT) Service Desk is looking for students of any major who are interested in helping people and learning! We offer flexible scheduling and an enriching atmosphere for employees; we want to ensure our employees can balance work, school, and life. Working for the Service Desk, you can expect to learn new skills relating to technology, customer service, and collaboration. As a Service Desk Analyst you will be working to assist users with technology, learn the ins and outs of GBIT, solve issues across the campus, and more!

Specializations

Students are given the opportunity to move up while working as an analyst to specialized student positions depending on their interests and experience while working on the Service Desk (around 3-6 months of working on the desk). Here are the current specialized positions:

  • Inventory Specialist
  • Apple Specialist
  • Security Assistant
  • Technical Support Lead
  • Technical Support Specialist
  • Dispatch Lead

Duties

  • Provide customer service to clients both on and off-campus. Avenues for support include phone, email, chat, and in-person appointments
  • Collaborate with GBIT staff and other students to resolve inquiries and provide superior support
  • Use a ticket-managing system to track progress on current calls
  • Troubleshoot calls using technical documentation
  • Solve calls that require on-site expertise; going out in the university to assist with tech issues
  • Support various applications (e.g. SPSS and Microsoft Office) and technology processes (e.g. printing, connecting to Wi-Fi, resetting passwords)
  • Watch the GAC lab during specific shifts to ensure devices (e.g. computers, scanners, printers) are functional while answering guest questions as they arise and monitoring the lab environment
  • Act as first point of contact for our users

Qualifications

Work Schedule

  • The Service Desk offers student employees an opportunity to work on campus up to 25 hours a week during the semester with a preferred minimum of 15 hours per week.
  • The Service Desk is open from 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM Monday through Thursday and Fridays from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. There are exceptions, such as Thanksgiving break and certain national holidays.
  • The Service Desk is open during Spring Break and summer and winter interims and offers employees an opportunity to work full-time if they desire. Hours during summer, Spring Break, and interims are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

IT Operations Assistant

The Division of Information Technology is looking for students of any major who are interested in helping people and learning! We offer flexible scheduling and an enriching atmosphere for employees; we want to ensure our employees can balance work, school, and life. Working for the Division of Information Technology, you can expect to learn new skills relating to technology, customer service, and collaboration. As an IT Operations Assistant, you will work within GBIT coordinating meetings, paperwork, processes, and a variety of other tasks that support the success of digital transformation at UW-Green Bay.

Duties

  • Schedule and prepare resources for meetings, conferences, travel, and work unit operations.
  • Be the first point-of-contact for other departments, individuals, and groups via phone and other means and relay messages to the proper individuals if required according to established policies and procedures under general supervision.
  • Collect, analyze, and prepare communication materials for future use.
  • Develop and maintain established methods and organizational systems for the maintenance of electronic and physical records related to the department or work operations according to established procedures.
  • Identify, work through, and resolve problems regarding technology systems and programs needed for specific department operations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • Willingness to approach leadership for direction and assistance.
  • Knowledge of desktop hardware, including (but not limited to) Microsoft Office Programs and the internet.
  • Ability to work in a diverse campus community and practice civility and inclusiveness in the workplace.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time or part-time depending on the department’s requirements.
  • Between the work hours of 7:45 AM – 4:30 PM.
  • Option to work on-campus on a hybrid schedule due to department’s needs.
  • May be located on any of the four campus locations including Marinette, Green Bay, Manitowoc, and/or Sheboygan.

Network and Electronics Technician

The Division of Information Technology (GBIT) is looking for students of any major who are interested in working with technical equipment, teamwork, and learning! We offer flexible scheduling and an enriching atmosphere for employees; we want to ensure our students can balance work, school, and life. Working as a Student Electronics Technician, you can expect to learn new skills relating to the setup of technology, collaboration, and more!

Duties

  • Run initial tests on A/V equipment and/or systems
  • Setup certain technical equipment on-site
  • Collaborate with IT staff and other students to resolve inquiries
  • Assist with basic repairs for technical equipment
  • Learn to use and troubleshoot classroom control systems, specific systems depending on device, and more
  • Assist with telecommunication technology and equipment including VOIP
  • Deploy, service, and check A/V and other technical equipment
  • Assist with the installation of copper and fiber data cable in walls, ceilings, and conduits
  • Assist with the installation and replacement of network switches in wiring closets; powering, configuring, and migrating existing data connections
  • Work with and adjust technical signage throughout campus

Qualifications

  • Able to understand and comb through manuals and technical documentation for troubleshooting

Security Assistant

The Division of Information Technology (GBIT) is hiring students for a position that helps secure GBIT infrastructure and sensitive data. This position assists with monitoring and analyzing threats to cybersecurity to ensure the safety and protection of information system assets while also facilitating security awareness training. The student would work closely with and report to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Working for GBIT, you can expect to learn new skills relating to technology, customer service, collaboration, and more! However, do note that this is an internal position at GBIT and will require time spent working on the Service Desk (6 or more months).

Duties

  • Monitor security appliances and inspect logs while investigating suspicious activity
  • Report security concerns and escalate security incidents to senior staff
  • Facilitate security awareness programs and training
  • Research developments to ensure knowledge necessary to carry out the above duties
  • Follow all policies and procedures set forth by UW-Green Bay and UW System
  • Assist the CISO and other staff with further tasks as may be necessary

Qualification

  • Experience with Information Technology, whether on the Service Desk or outside technical expertise
  • Knowledge of various operating systems such as Windows OS, MacOS, Linux, etc.
  • Previous hands-on experience with Active Directory, Microsoft Office Suite, and TCP/IP
  • Desire to learn new things and collaborate
  • Detail-oriented; able to spot mistakes and comb through data

Work Schedule

  • The Security Assistant position offers student employees to work up to 25 hours a week with a preferred minimum of 12 hours a week.
  • GBIT offers shifts in the range of 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM on Mondays-Fridays.

Inventory Specialist

The Division of Information Technology's (GBIT) Service Desk is looking for students of any major who are interested in inventory management, learning new technology, and detail-oriented task. We offer flexible scheduling and an enriching atmosphere for employees; we want to ensure our employees can balance work, school, and life. Working for GBIT, you can expect to learn new skills relating to technology, organization, collaboration, and more! However, do note that this is an internal position at GBIT and will require time spent working on the Service Desk (3-6 months).

Duties

  • Navigate and use the Inventory Database through detailed, spreadsheet work
  • Collaborate with IT staff to resolve inquiries and provide superior support
  • Identify mistakes made while managing inventory, policies, and funding for the departments
  • Use various forms of technology such as new devices, complicated programs, and specific tools designed for inventory
  • Comparing previous years' documents to identify duplicates, discrepancies, missing data, etc.
  • Locating computers and peripherals around campus to correct inventory

Qualifications

  • Comfortable and knowledgeable while using spreadsheets and Access
  • Detail-oriented; able to catch small mistakes while combing through cells of data
  • Willingness to speak up and ask questions
  • Previous technical experience is preferred, but not required

Apple Specialist

The Division of Information Technology's (GBIT) Service Desk is looking for students of any major who are interested in helping people and learning about Apple products! We offer flexible scheduling and an enriching atmosphere for employees; we want to ensure our employees can balance work, school, and life. You can expect to learn new skills relating to technology, customer service, and collaboration while focusing on Apple specific products. After this training period, you will start exclusively working specifically with Apple technology, solving incidents and working with dispatch. However, do note that this is an internal position at GBIT and will require time spent working on the Service Desk (3-6 months).

Duties

  • Working exclusively with Apple products and Mac users: deploying, imaging, sending updates, and scheduling replacements with Apple Product users
  • Use a ticket-managing system to track progress on current incidents while solving Apple specific tickets
  • Surplusing and e-wasting depending on certain incidents, upgrades, and replacements
  • Support various applications (e.g. SPSS and Microsoft Office) and technology processes (e.g. printing, connecting to Wi-Fi, resetting passwords) on Apple products
  • Updating information in JAMF Pro (our Apple Management Tool)

Qualifications

  • Service Desk experience and knowledge
  • Previous Apple technology experience is preferred but not required

ATS Technician

The Division of Information Technology's (GBIT) ATS Team is looking for students of any major who are interested in helping people and learning! We offer flexible scheduling and an enriching atmosphere for employees; we want to ensure our employees can balance work, school, and life. Working for ATS, you can expect to learn new skills relating to technology, customer service, office work, and more!

Duties

  • Provide customer service to clients on campus
  • Set up AV equipment such as sound systems and various video equipment
  • Support classroom technology including projectors, computers, document cameras, DVD players, etc.
  • Deliver AV equipment to classrooms around campus
  • Support various applications (e.g. SPSS and Microsoft Office) and technology processes (e.g. printing, connecting to Wi-Fi, resetting passwords)
  • Participate in office work such as filing, answering phone calls and emails, etc.
  • Collaborate with campus departments and professors and assist them with technology systems and services

Qualifications

Content Writer

The Division of Information Technology's (GBIT) Service Desk is looking for a part-time Content Writer for the department. As the Content Writer, you will be integral to the image of the Service Desk. The Content Writer can expect to compose and manage articles for the Service Desk and Content Writing Lead. Additionally, the Content Writer will be assisting the Student Coordinator with scheduling, email replies, and more. The Service Desk offers flexible scheduling and an enriching atmosphere for employees; we want to ensure our employees can balance work, school, and life.

Duties

  • Prepare technical articles and documentation as part of GBIT's Knowledge Base
  • Maintain the accuracy of the GBIT 700+ Knowledge Base articles under supervision
  • Learn the “ins and outs” of the department to successfully help maintain and create training and procedure documentation
  • Assist the Student Coordinator with scheduling training, replying to applicants, working on training plans, etc.
  • Collaborate with staff to learn best-practices for the Service Desk and use said practices to document and implement procedure changes as needed
  • Collaborate with various departments within IT to ensure documentation within the Knowledge Base is accurate and presented clearly
  • Collaborate with lead to ensure accuracy, clarity, daily task information, and proper documentation

Qualifications

Work Schedule

  • The Service Desk is open Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM and Fridays from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Writers are expected to work during these hours with their appointed supervisor and lead; frequent meetings with supervisor and lead are required.
  • The Content Writer is expected to work around 10 hrs. a week.
  • The Service Desk is open during winter and summer interims, during which full-time hours are available.

Web Developer

The Division of Information Technology's (GBIT) Web Development team is looking for students of any major who are interested in developing and managing content on the web. We offer flexible scheduling and an enriching atmosphere for employees; we want to ensure our employees can balance work, school, and life. Working in Web Development, you can help create the future of the web at UW-Green Bay and expect to learn new skills relating to technology, project completion, and collaboration.

Duties

  • Review and publish pages to ensure they meet design and accessibility standards
  • Run tests and reports on webpages for quality assurance
  • Assist with day-to-day email inquiries including questions, Service Desk tickets, and web related issues
  • Create, design, format, and manage web pages with web technologies and programs
  • Complete web projects on a deadline as assigned
  • Attend meetings with faculty and staff regarding web projects as needed
  • Learn and use various web languages, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and C#
