Hire a UW-Green Bay Student
Sourcing Student Help
Handshake is UW-Green Bay's preferred method for advertising job openings to students. The Help Center for Employers addresses many aspects of using the system, including: account creation, posting jobs and reviewing applications. Our Financial Aid office (920-465-2075 or financialaid@uwgb.edu) reviews part-time and seasonal opportunities for active students; Career Planning (920-465-2163 or careers@uwgb.edu) reviews internships and jobs that require a degree or certification.
Types of Student Employment
On-Campus
After a student has been selected for an on-campus position, please complete a Student Employment Form. Please submit the employment form five business days prior to the student's start date. Late, incomplete or inaccurate information may delay creation of a student appointment and pay and put us out of compliance with federal regulation.
Once Human Resources has entered the student and it has gone through all approvals in Workday, you will get an Onboarding task for the student employee. Please complete this task at least three days prior to the student's start date, as this task’s completion triggers the I-9 process.
No additional action is needed to hire a student through the Federal Work Study program. Hourly positions will automatically draw from any available work study funding, unless the supervisor requests otherwise. The supervisor and student are responsible for monitoring award balances.
UW-Green Bay is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action, Title IX public institution. UW-Green Bay does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability or other factors prohibited by law in any of its educational programs, activities, admissions or employment policies.
Off-Campus Work Study
Please contact our Financial Aid office (920-465-2075 or financialaid@uwgb.edu) if you are interested in a partnership or need assistance hiring a UW-Green Bay student through the Federal Work Study program.
Due to the need for periodic site visits, off-campus work study partnerships will generally be limited to nonprofit community service agencies within a 20 mile radius of the main campus; 10 miles of the additional campuses in Manitowoc and Sheboygan; or 5 miles of a major roadway (e.g., I-43 or US 41) connecting the locations. Exceptions to this policy may be made at the discretion of the Director if an extenuating need or circumstance exists.
Regular Off-Campus Employment
Follow your organization's Human Resources policies when hiring a UW-Green Bay student. We ask that you provide the Career Planning Office with the following information of any UW-Green Bay student hired: name, start date, wage rate, approximate hours/per week, and the number of weeks the student is expected to work in this fiscal year (July-June). If you posted your position in Handshake, the Career Planning Office may contact you to gather this information. You may also report hires in Handshake.
Other Considerations
To ensure a safe and secure work environment, some student positions are required to have a background check. Find out if your student position needs a background check by reviewing the Criminal Background Check Policy (see page five for a list of duties that require a background check).
