Learn basic Italian communication skills useful for cultural interactions in markets, restaurants and general travel and public settings. The learning is low pressure with guided interactions, visual aids and games to ensure your success and best acquisition. It will be entertaining and upbeat with less focus on grammar and more on input with aids or tools that make it feel natural and easy to comprehend. Basic Italian is eight sessions taught by a certified and fluent instructor who lived several years in Italy.

Lisa Joy Meli has been teaching Italian for over fifteen years. She attended the University of Bologna in Italy for advanced studies in Italian literature and art history. She was awarded Wisconsin Teacher of the Year in 2013 and received the Governor’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2014.
Beginning Somali is designed for anyone who wishes to learn some of the basics of Somali language and culture. In this 8-week class, you will learn the alphabet, basic greetings and phrases as well as cultural aspects of the language and its speakers that can be helpful for professionals or anyone interested in learning more. The course will be taught by Said Hassan, Executive Director of COMSA and a native speaker of the language.

Said is a survivor of the civil war in Somalia in the 1990s. He was one of the few lucky children who attended and finished their education under precarious living conditions. He obtained undergraduate degrees in communication studies and international development from the University of South Africa and the University of Western Cape. He also received his master’s degree from UW Oshkosh in nonprofit management. He has many years of working experience with the refugee populations here in the USA and in Africa.
