Financial planning for retirement

Retirement Planning Fundamentals

Virtual: March 22, 29 & April 5
In-Person, Sheboygan Campus: April 4, 11 & 18
6-8:30 p.m.
Fee: $54 Individual, $99 couple, $54 virtual

This course is a must if you are over the age of 55 and focuses on how you may prepare for a comfortable retirement. Instructions on how to access the online course will be outlined in the email confirmation you will receive after enrollment. Duration: Approximately 6 hours to complete. In this course, you will learn.

  • Concepts and strategies to help you handle your day-to-day finances
  • How to potentially reduce your taxes and manage your investments
  • Optional: How to assess your current financial situation and develop a personalized plan during a one-on-one meeting with a financial advisor



Instructors are experienced financial experts from Robert W. Baird, an employee-owned wealth management, capital markets, asset management and private equity firm.


Roger Klumb, CFP ®
Roger is a Financial Advisor at Robert W. Baird & Co. Incorporated and a Certified Financial Planner™. He has been teaching retirement planning classes for over five years. Prior to his career at Baird, which began in 2008, Roger worked as a financial analyst at GE Healthcare. He is a Wisconsin native and an avid Badgers fan. He lives in Sussex with his wife and their three sons. Roger enjoys the outdoors, reading, golfing and a variety of other sports.

 John “J.R.” Richards, AAMS ®
J.R. earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Marquette University, and has been teaching retirement planning classes for the past three years. He has been a Financial Advisor since 2006 and is currently an Accredited Asset Management Specialist® at Robert W. Baird & Co. Incorporated. J.R. loves spending time with his family, playing golf, traveling, the Green Bay Packers and Marquette University basketball. J.R., his wife Lori, and their two daughters reside in Shorewood.

Alexandra Spangler
Alexandra believes in a holistic approach to financial planning and enjoys customizing portfolios specific to the clients’ needs and goals that are uncovered and constantly evolving throughout the relationship. She has a specific interest in family, legacy, and estate planning and helping other women with their financial goals. As a former Division I athlete, Alex’s dedication, work ethic, and energy brings a unique element to the team.

These radical changes have occurred at all levels — national and local, individual and family, practical and emotional — seismic transformations that can leave you feeling fearful, overwhelmed, and worried about what the future might look like. Taking care of your mental health during extreme situations is crucial. In this course, you will learn:

  • How to proactively address emotional upheaval
  • Expand your understanding of psychological well-being
  • Identify and process your reactions to crisis by learning healthy ways to cope when circumstances feel beyond your control

Angela Wessels has worked in the mental health field since 2010. She holds a counseling license in the state of Wisconsin and is a nationally certified counselor with Lifepoint Counseling, LLC. Angela has experience providing community educational programming, providing outpatient counseling to a variety of ages and populations, and also provides critical incident debriefings for first responders after traumatic incidents.
