Phoenix Scholar

The Phoenix Scholar Awards provide a discounted tuition rate to qualified non-resident graduate students who meet the academic and residency criteria described below. This is not “financial aid” nor is it a “scholarship” in the traditional sense. Instead, it is a lower tuition rate offered to qualifying graduate students. There is no need to apply; rather, you'll automatically be considered for this during the admissions process.

Qualifications

UW-Green Bay has set criteria for the levels of Phoenix Scholar Awards available to non-resident graduate students based on their past academic performance. Students admitted into programs that charge the same rate to all students, regardless of residency, do not qualify for a Phoenix Scholar award.

What You Need to Do

There is no separate application for Phoenix Scholar Awards.

Awards will be based on a student’s undergraduate degree GPA at the time of admission. Phoenix Scholar Awards are applied to your tuition until you complete your graduate degree or attempt 60 credits. Students must continue to enroll in coursework each fall and spring term and maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Phoenix Scholar Awards are automatically applied to qualified non-resident graduate students. However, if a student's residency status or academic performance changes, their eligibility for the Phoenix Scholar Awards may change as well.

Eligibility in this program requires:

• To be eligible for the full tuition discount award, students must be enrolled as a full-time, degree seeking student (9 or more credits) in each fall and spring semester. Online, Business Administration, and First Nations Education students automatically pay in-state tuition, so the Phoenix Scholar Award does not apply to students admitted in these programs. If students are enrolled in less than 9 credits in a regular semester, the total amount of tuition discounted will be reduced proportionately.
• You can receive this award for a maximum of 60 credits or until the completion of your first UW-Green Bay master’s degree, whichever occurs first.
• Residency status must be non-resident or Midwest tuition rate for tuition assessment purposes.
• Maintaining “good standing” within the program. May be appealed through the Dean of Enrollment.

Graduate Studies Travel Grants

Grants are available for UW-Green Bay, degree-seeking graduate students to support activities contributing to the enhancement and completion of graduate degrees. Up to $250.00 will be awarded per request, and a maximum of $500 per student per year. Awarded funds can be used for travel to cover the costs associated with attendance at relevant conferences, workshops, or related educational events. Students presenting papers or research as a part of their travel will be given priority. All requests must first be approved by a graduate faculty sponsor from the student's program of study prior to review by the Graduate Studies Office.

Applications must be received 30 days prior to the meeting start date, but applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to facilitate the direct payment of costs associated with meeting attendance.

Please fill out the Graduate Travel Grant Application, Budget Form* (spreadsheet download), and send to your faculty sponsor with all supporting documentation. After review and approval, applicants will then send all documents directly to the Office of Graduate Studies. Please contact us at gradstu@uwgb.edu.

Post Travel Request: We encourage award recipients to share your experience presenting your research publicly. This can include a brief statement of your experience and/or photographs related to your travel or research. While this is not required, submitted statements and photos will be submitted on our social media. Completing of a release form is requested.

Graduate Studies Research Grants

Grants are available for UW-Green Bay, degree-seeking graduate students to support activities contributing to the enhancement and completion of graduate projects and thesis. Awarded funds can be used for travel to and from research sites, for research supplies and equipment. Research grants will not support travel to meetings, tuition and general educational expenses, standard equipment expected of departments, researcher salaries or stipends, or publication costs. Awards are limited to one per student.

Awards are distributed on a competitive basis. Successful applicants will provide clear overview of their thesis/project objectives, and link specific proposal requests to these larger goals. Weight will be given to proposals that develop or utilize partnerships and that demonstrate other means of financial or in-kind support. Individual allocations of up to $1,000 will be awarded. Application deadlines for submissions are January 31 and April 16. Late proposals will not be considered.

Project funding is available for use over a 12-month period. Award recipients must submit an electronic project report including a brief (1 page) summary of major findings, and a minimum of 4 publication quality photographs or short videos documenting project activities and outcomes to the Graduate Studies Office within 60 days of the completion of the funding cycle.

Wisconsin Indian Grant (WIG)

Awards under this program are made to Wisconsin residents who are at least 25% Native American and are undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in degree or certificate programs at University of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Technical College, independent colleges and universities or proprietary institutions based in Wisconsin. Awards are based on financial need with a limit of ten semesters of eligibility. HEAB has an informal matching arrangement with grant funds awarded by the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs and Wisconsin Tribal governments.

Wisconsin Organization of Nurse Executives, INC. (WONE)

Educational Scholarship Program MSN, PhD, or DNP

The Wisconsin Organization of Nurse Executives, Inc. has education funds available for Wisconsin nurses seeking an advanced degree related to nursing leadership. One $1000 one-time stipend will be awarded for a MSN, PhD or DNP degree. Education scholarship applications and supporting documents must be submitted via email. Membership in WONE/AONE is preferred, however not required.

Eligibility Requirements

1. The program of study must be:
   1. An advanced degree substantially related to nursing leadership
   2. Accredited by a recognized accrediting body
2. The Applicant must be a current Wisconsin resident
