Resident vs. Non-Resident

Students will be assessed resident or non-resident tuition for online and off-campus courses according to UW System policy for on-campus courses. In other words, if you are not a WI resident and are taking an internet course only, you will not be charged non-resident fees.

Credits and the 'Tuition Plateau'

Between twelve (12) and eighteen (18) credits is considered the tuition plateau. Specific programs may be an exception to the plateau and/or segregated fee policies.
January Interim credits will be assessed outside of the tuition plateau.
Summer session plateau is 6 to 9 credits for Undergraduate students.

Engineering Technology Fee

Effective Fall 2015, a per-term $700 differential tuition fee will be charged to declared Engineering Technology majors. Please see the Engineering Technology webpage for more program information.

Segregated Fees

Segregated Fees are assessed for ALL credits (up to a maximum of 12 credits for undergraduate students) if a student is registered for ANY on-campus and/or online (internet) credits. Segregated fees are not assessed if a student is only registered for off-campus courses.
For more information regarding Segregated (SEG) Fees please refer to our SEG Fee page Segregated Fees & Allocation

Online (Internet) Courses

  • All Graduate and Undergraduate students taking online classes (as defined by UW-Green Bay policy) pay resident tuition, segregated fees, and the per credit online course fee for all online classes within the tuition plateau.
  • Non-resident Graduate and Undergraduate students taking a mix of online and face-to-face classes are charged applicable non-resident tuition for all face-to-face courses; and resident tuition, segregated fees, and applicable per credit online course fees for all online courses.  All classes are charged within the plateau.
  • Students pay the per credit online course fee for all online courses taken during a particular semester, session, or term regardless of the number of credits taken.

Online Course Definition

An Online course is defined as one in which 75 percent or more of the instruction and interaction takes place through a non face-to-face modality. Online courses include those that employ correspondence study, or audio, video or computer technologies.

Online Course Fee  (effective Fall 2016)

A course fee of $25.00 per credit will be assessed for all online courses. These funds will be used to (1) cover the costs associated with purchasing and maintaining the software that is used to develop and deliver distance education courses; (2) cover the costs of state authorization fees for distance delivery; (3) offset the costs of staffing student support services (e.g. Instructional Design, Help Desk, Library, Advising, Tutoring, etc.) (4) cover the costs associated with purchasing or licensing online library resources; (5) provide specialized training to faculty and teaching academic staff who develop, deliver, and/or support distance education courses; and (6) promote the development of new distance education programs.  A full refund of this fee will only occur during the 100% refund period (add/drop period) of a semester or session.

For information regarding academic policies and procedures, please contact the Registrar's Office.

Grad Student Taking Undergrad Course or Undergrad Student taking Grad Course

The assessment of undergraduate tuition versus graduate tuition should be based upon the level of enrollment, i.e., a student enrolled as a graduate student taking some undergraduate courses shall be assessed graduate level fees for all credits. Conversely, an undergraduate student taking a graduate level course shall be assessed undergraduate level fees for all credits, as long as the graduate level course is not later used toward a graduate degree. If these graduate courses are later used toward a graduate degree, the student may be assessed the fee differential at that time.
The student will make this request through the Registrar's office, with a copy to Student Billing. Additional fee assessment will be calculated and due upon this request.

Audit Credits

Audit credits count as full value in determination of a total credit load.  For more information on 'Audit' credits please refer to our Audit Students page.

Midwest Student Exchange Program

A special tuition rate given to students residing in states participating in the Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP). MSEP is a voluntary program and 9 of the 12 states in the Midwest Higher Education Compact (MHEC) participate. Iowa, South Dakota and Ohio do not participate in MSEP at this time. For more information contact the Registrar's Office or visit the Midwest Higher Education Compact website.

Return to Wisconsin

Non-resident children and grandchildren of UWGB alumni are eligible for discounted tuition. Details of the program can be found here.
