Final Examination Policies

  1. Final examinations must be given at the time and date assigned, and within the time limit designated for the class; any exceptions must have prior approval from the appropriate academic dean.
  2. If a student has more than two final examinations on one day, he or she may, upon notice to the instructor of the smallest class, arrange to take a substitute final examination on a later day during the final examination period. The instructor may request verification as to which class has the smallest enrollment.
  3. If an instructor feels that a final examination is not appropriate for the class, he or she should file a statement with his or her major or professional program chairperson at the beginning of the semester indicating what alternative method of evaluation he or she will use. This information should be made available to students at the beginning of the semester. No final examinations may be given other than at the official scheduled time unless the instructor has approval from the appropriate academic dean.
  4. Any student with an unusual problem, which could interfere with writing a final examination, such as illness or a death in the family, should always consult the class instructor prior to the time scheduled for the final examination. If a student has any difficulty in contacting the instructor, he or she should contact the appropriate academic dean for assistance.
