John Otto Kalies, 77, of De Pere, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday December 9, 2014 at home. The son of the late Herbert Sr. and Mary (Burich) Kalies was born October 1, 1937 in Cato. John served his country in the U.S. Navy, on the USS Wisconsin. On November 10, 1962 he married the former Mary Naze in Lincoln. 

He had worked at UWGB for over 30 years and retired in 1999. He was a member of the AFSCME and Local 1800. 

Survivors include his wife, Mary, children Christopher (Brenda) Kalies, Todd Kalies (fiancé Debra Soderbeck), Kim (Ronald) Lilley, and Pamela Kalies, grandchildren, Jenna, Samual, Kendall, Merideth, Aaron, Thérése, Celina, Aiden, Adele, one great-grandson, Ethan. He is also survived by his siblings, Herbert Jr., (Ruth), Joseph (Grace), Curt (Nancy) and Karen (Gary) Dille, as well as his sisters-in-law, Mickey Kalies, Terri Selvey, Yvonne Gigot, and Janet Swoboda; and a brother-in-law Aaron (Carol) Naze. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Kenneth and Ronald, as well as his parents-in-law, Elmer and Josie Naze and brother-in-law Gary Swoboda. 

Family and friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street De Pere from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday December 16, 2014. Parish prayer service will be held to close the evening at 6:45 pm. Visitation will continue after 9:00 am on Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oneida. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday with Father John Chrysostom Katamba and Deacon Bobby Doxtator, officiating. Full Military Burial Rites will be held following the Mass. Please visit www.ryanfh.com to send online condolences to the Kalies family. Entombment will be held at Shrine of the Good Shepard Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Passing of former heat/chill employee Kalies

John O. Kalies, 77, of De Pere, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 9 at home. A sailor with the US Navy on the USS Wisconsin, Kalies was a founding staff member of UW-Green Bay on the Shorewood site. He worked for UW-Green Bay for more than 30 years, retiring from Facilities Management as a power plant operator in 1999. Survivors include his wife, Mary, four children, grandchildren and others. Friends may all at Ryan Funeral Home in De Pere between 4 and 7 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 16), or from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the 11 a.m. funeral at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oneida.
